Visit Dauin

Oslob whale sharks (Cebu)

Cross the strait to southern Cebu to snorkel beside whale sharks in Oslob — the most popular day trip from the Dumaguete area.

Oslob is just across the Tañon Strait from Negros. Every morning whale sharks — the largest fish in the sea — gather off Barangay Tan-awan, where you can watch from a boat or snorkel alongside them.

From Dauin, ride north to Sibulan port, take the short ferry to Liloan port in Santander, Cebu, and it's about 15 minutes by road to Tan-awan. Many travellers add Tumalog Falls nearby on the way back.

Whale shark watching has changed life in Tan-awan. Families who once depended on fishing now earn a steady living as boatmen, spotters, guides and cooks, and visitor fees support the community. Local people have every reason to protect these gentle giants — a place where people and whale sharks live side by side. Follow the briefing and the rules, and your visit helps keep it that way.
